Lashes for lash extensions – choose the right curl, thickness and length

The right lash is not chosen based on the visual effect alone. Curl, thickness, and length must collectively suit the client's natural lashes, eye shape, chosen technique, and the design to be created.

Quick answer

Choose technique and safe weight first, curl according to direction and desired lift, and length last based on the natural lash and your lash map.

Curl, diameter, and length should be evaluated together – not as three separate product choices.

Three decisions that guide the entire lash design

01 · CURL

Direction and lift

The curl affects how the lash leaves the lash line and how open, soft, or dramatic the result is perceived.

02 · THICKNESS

Weight and technique

The diameter affects the weight per fiber and whether the product is primarily suitable for classic, volume, or other professional techniques.

03 · LENGTH

Shape and load

The length shapes the silhouette but must also be justifiable for the natural lash meant to carry the extension.

How common curls differ

A curl designation describes the shape of the lash, but the same designation can feel slightly different across product lines. Therefore, always assess the physical strip and the client's natural lash direction.

Curl Visual expression Keep in mind
C Soft to distinct opening. Versatile when natural direction and desired lift align well.
CC More lift than C. Check the contact surface and available lengths.
D Distinct and dramatic. A large difference from the natural lash can make placement difficult.
DD Very pronounced lift. Use when stable placement is possible.
M or L-type Straighter base and distinct direction. Assess base, direction, and contact surface with extra care.

Thickness does not determine the result alone

Thickness is specified in millimeters and affects the weight per fiber. The thinner the fiber, the more fibers can typically be included in a professional volume technique – but there is no universal combination that suits all natural lashes.

0.15 mm

Common in classic single-lash technique.

0.07 mm

Thinner volume fiber for light fans.

0.03–0.05 mm

Very thin fibers for advanced volume techniques.

Soft Flat

Fiber profile with a different base than traditional round single lashes.

Bellestore Expert Tips

Design with three layers of decisions

Start with what the natural lash can safely support. Then choose the technique and diameter. Only when the foundation is set do you choose the curl and distribute the lengths in a lash map.

Choose length step by step

  1. Analyze the natural lash.
  2. Determine the desired expression.
  3. Place the highest point of the design.
  4. Build soft transitions.
  5. Customize per zone.
  6. Document the result.
